Green Building
"Green" is an overused word in the building industry ... too general and often abused.
At CED, we believe our nod to the "green" movement is better described as "commonsense building practices." We utilize environmentally-friendly building procedures and materials because they make the most practical sense, not because its cool or trendy.
First we consider Energy Efficiency. A variety of building strategies can conserve energy including appliance placement, window and door locations, insulation, rooflines, outdoor landscaping, solar power and lighting. Materials and products can also be selected to maximize energy efficiency such as double paned windows and energy efficient appliances. Each project will have different needs and requirements, and we work closely with owners, residents and managers to build to the appropriate specification. A recent multi-unit renovation realized a 43% reduction in energy costs during their peak season.
Second, durability is sustainable building. When you build quality you build long-lasting construction. By choosing the appropriate materials, a long-term investment is made. If a quality, well-made cabinet is installed the first time it won't have to be replaced in just a few years. The same goes for carpeting, stonework, appliances, wiring, venting and plumbing.
Third, recycling and repurposing is a more cost effective approach to renovating. We evaluate every project with an eye to what can be salvaged, thus saving money and the environment.
And last of all, our worksite clean up and trash disposal is managed carefully. We adhere to all federal, state and county guidelines; dispose of toxic chemicals and debris in the proper manner and ensure our crew keeps a clean, safe building environment.
